This simple table is what I use to figure out the size squares needed for an "ON-POINT SETTING" set in triangles. Figured I could use my blog to reference this handy table which then I'll be able to search for it quickly. I know that if I stored it correctly in my studio would be a great idea BUT, sometimes my room is in such disarray that this mode becomes necessary.
For the Corner triangles, cut out two squares then cut each square once on the diagonal to get your four corner squares.
**The set in triangles are squares that are cut twice diagonally in each direction. Figure out how many triangles are needed for your quilt and then divide that number by four. That will be how many squares are needed. See chart below for sizes based on block size.
Size of Corner Triangles Set in Triangle SQUARES
BLOCKS Squares- CUT 2 **See note above
4" 4" 7"
5" 4.5" 8.5"
6" 5.5" 10"
7" 6" 11.25"
7.5" 6.5" 12"
8" 7" 12.75"
8.5" 7" 13.5"
9" 7.5" 14""
10" 8" 15.5"
12" 9.5" 18.25"
14" 11" 21"
15" 11.5" 22.5"
16" 12.5" 24"
18" 14" 27"
24" 18" 35.25"
After your quilt top is assembled, you may need to trim the edges. remember to leave a 1/4 inch seam allowance when trimming. I always add borders there after. There, easy peasy.
