Stash Report #21, 2013

Just a touch of that Green will be used in June for another challenge I'm participating with "Tammy"!
and the other two were because I loved them.
So much has been going on STILL!  but I  am longing, hoping and aiming for quieter times.  I will just  catchup on my stash report today and let those other missed weeks' worth slide.  I will include all those numbers and compile them with this report.

Stash In: 18.25 Yards
Stash Out: 0 Yards

YTD In: 72.50 Yards
YTD Used/Out the Door: 34.5 yards

That's a stash gain of 38 yards for this year.
Scottie, my thrusters are at capacity and they're in reverse for my stash usage!

See how much better other bloggers are faring with their stash reports over at Judy's  blog.  Though I did have some bright spots by shopping while handling everything around here.  DH's surgery was a success, as was a medical test of mine, court handled well and the other appointments met with glad tidings.  For the calendar this week, we're catching our breath and will resume our more normal, typical routines.   We still don't know if we'll be heading to Boston for a pretransplant Cardiac workup for DH, we'll find that out in several weeks but we are ever hopeful that it'll be put off for several more years if needed at all with this most recent surgery this past  Thursday.

Ahhhh..... peace!   Amongst all the traveling,  appointments, scheduled and non planned I was also on a quest to find 2 yards more of that Dimples Brown I need to finish the camper quilt,  I blogged about on the last post, What I found instead were some lovely fabrics that ended up coming home with me.  Many backgrounds while shopping with my Cousin Diane after our guild and a lunch, besides that new background from the Indian Summer line that's so unique, backing for the camper quilt, some lovely browns for the Charlotte Baskets (aka Bonnie Hunter class I attended on the 10th), a lovely eye-glasses fabric and the lime green from the Stitched in Color line both are fabrics that I adore, oh what a happy girl I am and one who managed all that was  thrown at her with just a bit of shopping.  lol    It is one of my coping skills did you know?  And one that I also need to control.  LOL

Basket blocks done in a Bonnie Hunter workshop, May 2013
Adding to my background stash, I never seem to have enough lights!

But it could have been so much worse, there is a wicked deal on a Bernina 830 that I did walk past, though 4 years at zero financing made it hard.  But truth be known, I would rather have a true long arm machine, either a sit down one or a free arm one rather than a slightly bigger harped machine with all the bells and whistles  even though I do love my Berninas.

Maybe someday I can find the right financing for a Millennium George or perhaps a Handiquilter 18 that will fit my budget and be just the right circumstances for me to purchase one.  Whenever that occurs I'll need to find the right space here to accommodate it

My cousin and I both bought this pattern and hers is done already!
She gave it to her Mom for Mother's Day, Showoff!!  lol

That camper quilt top is put together and I'd like to get the borders on when I find that Hershey bar colored chocolate brown dimples.  Today is paperwork time so I'll spend some of the time to finish my quest for that dimples.  No local shops carry it and the one I initially bought it  at only had the rustier brown version on their shelves .  And that was in a 3 week time interval, not years which is usually so typical for me!

I also kept in mind the next projects I'd like to focus on for my New FOs and list of four for June.  Some other fabrics were for the Cardinal Patchability besides buying  another 2 patterns that  I 'd like to do hopefully this year if not the next.

A pin cushion for my SIL who provides us with
dozens of farm fresh eggs from her girls.
Those feathers might by the Cat's meow for it too!

Border, background and print  fabric for this NewFO I'd like to do in June.
That border has a Frank Lloyd Wright style to it that appeals to me.
and I may have to place those Cardinals on a birch limb since that is where they perch here.

My sewing room is in disarray and am unsure whether to try to tame it down, or just throw it all in a super large tote so I can find some time to play on these 2 days off without grandchildren.    It's raining here and thank goodness too or I'd be out in the yard taking care of other chores.
Enjoy your Sunday and the long Holiday weekend,
 and Thanks for stopping by.

Stash Report #18, 2013

The stash numbers this week continue showing more of the stash getting used, Yippee!
it also shows more being purchased as well, a Double Yippee!!
(sometimes there's just nothing better than a little retail therapy!)

With finishing those three pillows and the linings for them all, it pushed it to three yards used for the projects finished this week.  But, I also bought another 6.5 yards while being in Vermont this past Wednesday for DH's appointment.  He's in heart failure and thankfully a heart transplant will be a ways off, we continue to hope and pray that it's even years before he needs one, if at all.  We'll know better after this next procedure and the post procedural appointment.  His Ejection Fracture which is his cardiac output is in the pits,  his current numbers are 10-15, that range is minimal (normal ranges are 52-77).  The Doctor thinks another Ventricular lead for his pacer defibrillator may be a benefit, but can't give any guarantees.  He explained it by saying that with a quad lead attachment of this one Ventricular lead, it will afford the Doctors some ability to further tweak his cardiac output.  AND by replacing this ventricular lead we were hopeful that the lead being replaced was the one on the Medtronics recall list, sadly it 's not.  Anyway, he'll be having that done whenever they schedule it and let us know.    So sewing helps keep me sane whenever I can find the time or should i say make the time.  You can be sure I'll have some handwork ready to take with me while he's in the Hospital out of state.   Sorry for so much information, but my fingers did the talking for me  and I allowed them sometimes you just need to vent.

Now back to my  stash report, with my fabric gain, two yards of the new stuff  has already been sliced up and is currently being used.  I also am taking a Bonnie Hunter class through my guild this week, so I picked up a few items for that.  The rest of my purchase will go for the "For the Birds Blog Hop" that is happening this and next week. Mary from I piece 2 is our cheerleader and this hop is another brainchild of Madamme Samm of Sew We Quilt.  can you just imagine being able to creep into her brain and see how it works?  What a creative and gracious lady!  Her Quilt Diva that she made has been sold and the profits are going for another sewing machine to help out ladies in need.

Oh where does the time go?  Boy, I need to get ready for all of those events and soon!  So, without further adieu, my report is:

Stash In: 6.5 Yards
Stash Out: 3 Yards

YTD In: 54.25 Yards
YTD Used/Out the Door: 34.5 yards

That's a stash gain of 19.75 yards for this year.

Actually I did start A New FO for May yesterday. It wasn't even on my list of 12 for 2013, just something that caught my eye and lit my fuse, opps, I meant lit up my muse.   LOL  Though I've used up 2 yards of a dark brown dimple dot by Gail Kessler from Andover fabrics that was just purchased, I can't consider any of that used for the stash report until the project is finished.  The brown  is just the sashing pieces running through out the quilt. Want a peek?

No, the brown fabric shown is not the dimple dot, this is another brown I'm using on the same project.
A pattern I saw in a magazine which finished at 40"X50" and wouldn't work for a full/queen bed I loved.  The pattern didn't list any other dimensions for it, so I refigured the pattern with my own dimensions to make it similiar to the stacked blocks bsby quilt, but finishing the top section in a 60"x74" before adding any borders.  We'll see when I finish assembling it together how it needs to proceed, it's aWIP now.

I started some of my Spring cleaning, starting with the foyer and Dining Room.  Need to get to that front porch too.  It's so dirty and dusty from these winter months, the siding looks so bad it looks like I'll have to chisel the dirt off.  Since I don't want the cart before the horse, I'll wait to do the windows until DH gets the siding washed.  No since doing a job twice if you can do it once.  I'll have to request that chore higher on his list, perhaps this week.  Even knowing that by doing that, it'll be on my list of chores since he can't do it without me helping.  Can't wait to get the crud off these windows and let the sun shine through.  There's something uplifting to me about clean windows.

Looks like Spring has finally decided to arrive in these parts.
My daffodils are blooming, the hyacinths have bloomed and a forsythia bush is also starting to make it's presence known, but that is all so far.

As for outside work, the list is long.

regular sized Jonquils
Multi flowered tete a tete daffodils, so sweet.

Allelulia, first of May,
Outside playing begins that day!

I did throw some pansies into the planters on the back deck just to have a bit of color while the temps. are still too risky for the other types of flowers I usually keep in them.  It makes it nicer during our breaks with ice water to rest.
See all those plants on the bench part?  More outside playing when I know it won't be killed by the frost.  The deals were too good to pass up.  Even though they may die back, I am a gardener at heart and know the efforts will be worth it next year even if that happens.

What else has been going on?
More playing with the grandchildren.

Cupcakes turned more into a science experiment with color.
We only used yellow, red and green with varying intensities and mixing those bits together too.  Just see all those colors.
Don't look to close though, I wouldn't want you to lose your dinner.  lol
The kids  loved doing them and eating them too, happy day.

While in a neighboring state for DH's Doctors appointment,  I saw a store sample of a frairie garden.
We picked up the necessary supplies thinking that PGD#1 would love to craft this.
She's always looking for projects to make or do together.

So I explained the order of how and snipped some of the larger plantings to be individual and smaller sized trees and bushes for her and let her go to town.  She placed the lights on the fence, laid the base layer of plastic vegetation and then played with the best scenerio for the little trees, mushooms and Miss Fairie.

Tried to get a better photo showing the lights, but it wasn't happening.
She did it all by herself.
Isn't it beautiful!
Just Perfect!
Mostly it sits on the coffee table in the Living Room and while it's lit at night, those little lights shine and it's restful.
For the photo, I placed it on the dining room table where there was better lighting.
I really should let her take it home,
but I did ask her to make it for Papi and Meme.
Thankfully, she complied nicely so I will keep it.
Geting off this computer and on to some paperwork  calling my name.
Have a Good night and
Enjoy your week,
Jane

Stash Report #17, 2013

Nada, Zip, Nothing to report for purchases or usage, so close though.

Stash In: 0 Yards
Stash Out: 0 Yards
YTD In: 47.75 Yards
YTD Used/Out the Door: 31.5 yards

That's a stash gain of 16.25 yards for this year.

I noticed that by the end of April I wanted that net change to be close to 10 yards of gain using up another 6 yards.  Can I do it?   YES!!!!   I only have 3 more days left this month and just know that I'll make it!   That being said,  you won't see it in the stash report until next Sunday. But  I will show you the finished projects.  Of the  2 projects using 6 1/4 yards - one  is almost done and the other I'll continue  working on tomorrow evening so hopefully will be finished by Tuesday and that will bring me to the 10 yards net gain exactly!

See You tomorrow for my pom pom reveal.

Stash Report #16 of 2013

Nothing can be counted as used this past week despite sewing for 5 out of the seven days.    I was able to work on some of my April's Get 'er Done List like the lil' Miss Shabby block,  Cut out another Jacket to sew and planned the Pom pom project.  Think I'll be playing with that lattermost this afternoon.  Need to get that one done!

This week's numbers are:

Stash In: 0 Yards
Stash Out: 0 Yards
YTD In: 47.75 Yards
YTD Used/Out the Door: 31.5 yards

That's a stash gain of 16.25 yards for this year.

By month's end I plan to get this number close to 10 yards.    I am so ready to start showing more used and going out of stash than coming in, though I do have to admit I've been browsing and adding yardage to an online cart, but then just as quickly, closing out of the online shop with out buying.
Phew!   Talk about some close calls!
{Stay Strong Janie- "subliminal message to self"}
If interested  to see how other quilter's are fairing, stop by Judy Laquidera's blog and check out those links.

Another area of interest is getting my home in order.  Am still trying to clean up bits around here when I can and participating in the Flylady 's techniques to accomplish more with smaller efforts.    Some days are good and others not so.  I really think my sewing studio is overwhelming me during my attempts to sew, causing mental and physical distractions and using too much of my energy just walking into that room.
This past week, 1 week after coming home from the quilt retreat in fact, I found myself setting up my portable sewing machine on the dining room table like I used to sew when my children were younger and lived here.  Ahhhh, heaven!  No other projects making me  falter and  stretching me  into so many different directions.
One project out and getting done to the next step.
so  SIMPLE and sew SWEET!
  • Perhaps I have way too much stuff around my sewing area to be my most productive self.
  • Perhaps I'll pack up various kits, pigs and projects and tote them downstairs so I have open space.  I want to be like Thelma of Cupcakes and Daisies Blog, and have a neat area to work my craft.  My Mom also rocks in this department though she'll have 5 projects all going on simultaneously.   Is that me saying I want to grow up to be like my Mom?!!!  Yes in this area, definitely YES!  She is an amazing woman, quilter and organizer besides having a zest for life with a can do anything attitude.
Since I showed you many of my UFO's last week with the Parade of UFOs, should I share this room of mine as it is?    If you want to see it, I'll share otherwise it'll be another focus of mine to declutter and organize better.  Would you believe I have to move piles of stuff to open the doors of my fabric cabinets?  Talk about wasting energy that could  have been used  to sew instead.    Perhaps I'll use the fly lady technique of 15 minutes to start working on that while still keeping all my "other balls" juggled, hopefully without dropping any.   My exercise and food intake is doing better than I was so I want to continue succeeding in that area while also working on some other not so great areas that need improvement.    Wish me luck!

Stash Report #15 of 2013

Good to report that another 3 Yards were used this week with 3 pillowcases made for PGD#1.  What's that?  Yeah Me!  Two weeks in a row.  Maybe I'm on a new improved trend?
Can I get a Hoot whoot?

The stash report for this week is:
Stash In: 0 Yards
Stash Out: 3 Yards

YTD In: 47.75 Yards
YTD Used/Out the Door: 28.5 yards

That's a Net gain this year of 19.25 more yards into stash for this year (finally under 20 yard mark again, promise I'll be good for awhile and stop adding to my gains).

With those 3 pillowcases tallied into this week's stash report but were actually finished today.
Sometimes there are just not enough hours in a week!

Would you believe that bright striped fabric was setting in my stash and I thought it worked well enough with all the other colors in the Field of Flowers quilt that I finished at the beginning of the year.  It could be that perfect blend, but yet  something a little different so it wasn't all matchy matchy if you know what I mean.

What do you think?

Here's a closeup showing how intense those colors in the stripes.  They are a bit overwhelming if I used a bunch of it, but using just a hint of it in the areas I did, I like the looks just fine.

I made three pillowcases since PGD#1 has a trundle bed, thus  2 cases were absolutely needed and made one extra just in case.

Here they are laying on top of that quilt,
just in case you forgot what it looked like.  : o )

Also, I am thrilled that the 10 minute blocks made out of those batiks are totally done!

That makes 20 really big blocks that will each finish at 19".  Planning on using them in a grid of 4 blocks wide by 5 blocks high.  They will be shelved for the rest of this month so I can get to my other get 'er done items that were listed for April.   Hopefully in May I'll remember to list them to get the top sewn togehter.
I'm just loving this disected way of approaching my projects lately.   Talk about progress without the pain.
Just like eating an elephant ........ One bite at a time!

The next focus for this week will be the pom pom project that I need to have finished
for the 29th for the Shake your Pom poms blog hop.
What I was planning to make may have to change since in my excitement I showed lil' Miss PGD#1 what I intended and she doesn't think she'll like it.

Stop the Presses!
What!!!
I think it'd be so stinkin' cute and she doesn't think she'll like it?
How does a 7 year old have that much huxepah
to tell her Grandmother that she doesn't think that she'll like it?
Humph!
I think I'll be making it any way and we'll just see about that!
Can ya tell I'm miffed just a tad.

Well besides getting that pompom project going, the other 2  focuses for this next week will be to finish quilting that Convergence wallhanging and to cut out another A Little Something Jacket in between Dr's Appointments and other commitments already arranged.

TTFN,
Jane

Stash Report #14, 2013

Good to report that 3 Yards were used out of the stash with the tropical, A little something Jacket finished.
Can I get a Hoot whoot?

Here's the stash report for this week.  Finally I'm adding it on Wednesday morning since I've been out straight all week since getting home.

Stash In: 9 Yards
Stash Out: 3 Yards

YTD In: 47.75 Yards
YTD Used/Out the Door: 25.5 yards

That's a Net gain this year of 22.25 more yards into stash for this year.
Oh dear, I've slipped further away from ground zero and heading in that other direction Scottie!

Ohhh!  Did you see that 9 yards added?  MY LQS, Loose Threads had their anniversary event with some nice discounts.  The fabric line I've been lusting after, I finally purchased, thus the 9 yards added.   Another quilt is planned which I'll probably list for my May Get er done list and plan on using some background fabric that's been in my stash.  I'll have to strike while the iron is hot so to speak or while my muse is in overdrive.  lol

The retreat this  past weekend was just what I needed. Though the surroundings are rustic, all of our needs were met nicely and can I say that the price was right, but Qualilty time spent with my friend Trudy, Priceless!
It was great reconnecting with friends that were made from last years' retreat too and the creativity amongst the women gathered there was amazing.  Even two different women offered little classes with how to do sessions, a total surprise and both were nicely done.  One shared how she did  quilt bindings totally by machine and the other showed us the construction of an arrowhead block  assembled via the Anita Grossman Sullivan technique.  Can I say that's the only way to make that block with all those biased template type units it contains.  Thanks you Mardy and Sandy!  (I still want to make a 9" sample block and send it to the woman who arranges this retreat for their community project quilt.)

My focus was to work on a layer cake kit I bought last year to make a king size quilt, (pattern was not included so it was good that I had the book).  Not only did I successfully  snip the string holding it all together, but was able to assemble 19 blocks out of the 20 blocks.

Here they are laid out on my bed  sans the upper left block.
The 4 -10" squares included for that block didn't float with the focus diamond fabric  so I need to shop my stash or the LQS for a batik that could work better.

It is rather plan and the size surely doesn't look like a king size!   SO here I go "Janing it" again.  Perhaps I'll make 6 more blocks that way it'll be a 5x5 grid layout.  So note to self, buy 3 dark and 3 light batiks.

Then I took a breathe.

SCREECH!!!

STOP this insanity!

Keep it as it's meant to be.
(See I can apply my own brakes.) LOL

With DH talking about getting a hospital bed, this darker woodsy themed quilt could be a great quilt for that purpose should it come to fruition.  It will also be the right look for the den where it'll be set up with the animal and brown/black theme in that room.  Perfect!

My stash won't work, so off to my LQS for a 12"  wof piece.

Was able to cut and quilt the iron caddy together with the teflon fabric.  All that's left now is to get the handles on  and bind it.  Instead of having bulkier, sewn fabric strap handles, I just may use a soft black cording for the handles that way they won't be a hindrence while using it as an ironing pad and I think I have some in my ribbons and trims bin.   Perhaps I could focus on that this week.

Also managed to trace out the fusible steam a seam II pieces for two  patchabilities  wall hangings.   I'd like to do them both this year and it's nice to have this part done for whenever I start them, it'll be easy to slap those onto whichever scraps I use.
My daughter is out of town on a work related conference in Denver, Co  so I'm helping out more with her children's schedules and needs.

Enjoy your week,
Jane

Stash Report #13 of 2013 and a March's Mew FO

With a couple of Superman Capes made for the youngest grandchildren this past week (sorry no photos grabbed of those, they literally flew out the door, LOL!), there is movement (no less  two weeks in a row now) of stash used!    YEAH ME!!!!

This weeks stash report #13 of 2013,     drumroll .......

Stash In: 0 Yards

Stash Out: 2 Yards

YTD In: 38.75 Yards

YTD Used/Out the Door: 22.5 yards

That's a Net gain this year of 16.25 more yards into stash for this year.

Yesterday I thought I'd be able to report another 3 yards out the door with making the Little Something Jacket, (March's New FO or as it's referred to this month as a MewFO, lol) out of some rayon  during a sewing day with most of my Circle of Friends quilting group.    What can I say...

Me...all day...and, this is all I got done!
Jacket cut out, shoulders sewn together and one sleeve added.  But, my well was filled with laughter and the support that only girlfriends can provide.  It was a nice and successful day.    Sorry though that Carol, Michelle and Lee couldn't make it, you three were missed.

DH's health issues are troublesome again but I had to chuckle when I found this gem despite the risk DH is going through.   Thank goodness I do have some good ones!

On another very happy note, I won a giveaway from Cindy at Quilt Doodles!     An electronic copy of her pattern Coneflowers was in my inbox when I got back home today.   I really love that design and will be kitting it up for a project.  The kits I'm making up will be for when I drive DH to some of his appointments, I'll be having some great hand projects to help keep my sanity.

Then even more, when going through the snail mail, oh my!  another happy surprise, the package from Marcia from Sewing and quilting blog  sent me the winnings from her giveaway.  Several beautiful notecards with a sweet postcard thrown in the mix too.  How thoughtful!
Thank you both so much.  Perhaps I should purchase a lottery ticket, I feel so fortunate!

Enjoy your holiday weekend and the blessings of your life.
