My TAMMY!

First of all, thank you so much Madamme Samm for the wonderful pattern and organizing another FUN blog hop!  Also thanks to the sponsors who so generously donated some terrific prizes, would you believe not one but two Dovo scissors {I heart them- such quality!} and the gingham fabric, old fashioned  appeal with a new twist goodness, {love}.

When Mdm. Samm did a call out for bloggers who wanted to participate, I didn't waste any time and jumped on board.  Getting to test out her pattern I only had to commit to sharing it with you all on the 14th of June,  Flag Day, how easy is that I thought, so I said YES.
When I received the pattern it was very detailed. Would you believe 71 pages of detail or something so close to that, "YIKES"  I thought to myself, what did I get myself into?!@#!!!    But she had a terrific tutorial actually contained within the confines of the pattern illustrating each step so there could be no misunderstanding what was to be done next.
 Thanks it helped!

But after reading the pattern and gathering my materials together, I became more confident.  The hardest part was finding a hinged bag closure which I couldn't get the correct size in despite several shopping attempts here and out of state.  What to do?  ..... I had a smaller width frame and another that was a bit larger.   I ended up modifying my pattern to accommodate the larger and best frame I had in.   Well, before I get ahead of myself, let me show you the finished bag.

Would you believe I didn't take any photos of my finished bag empty except for the following two.

The interior of the bag during construction.  Matched up the seams really well on the bottom inside and out,  I was super happy about that!

Okay, who is playing tricks and inserted my Mother's hand in the photo, it can't be mine, whenever did that happen?!

The finished TAMMY's interior showing the side pockets on both front and back sections of the TAMMY.
On the bottom left of the above shot, you'll see where I inserted a loop of MODA twill tape in the outer seam just above the pocket.  This could securely hold keys, a ring of shopping cards, another wallet/coin purse,  etc...

Here's a shot of one side of the TAMMY while it is closed and STUFFED.

I did assemble this a little differently than the instructions.
I used a hand dyed cluny lace for trim on this side and then sewed the lining across the top incorporating the cluny trim then pressed the seams up.
When I flipped it down towards the inside, I left a small slip of that striped fabric showing for my faux piping, then top stitched the seam line with my favorite #10 Bernina foot.
Voila the Piping look without all the extra work.

After getting the upper portion of this pocket sewn, I lifted the exterior fabric and the fleece and stitched it onto the main purse part so I had the divisions that were in the pattern but also so they couldn't be seen on the exterior of the bag.  LOVE it!!
The Sunbonnet Sue side with the 3" scissors behind her is the shallowest pocket.  Items can't fall into the bottom crevices of this baby!  The left side also was stabilized so it's not as deep as the actual purse and holds the needle case and the slap it pincushion bracelet.

The photo below it shows what was held in that one pocket only.

The sunbonnet Sue doll is a needle minder that my grandmother made either a couple of or several decades ago.
While visiting my Mom this past winter in Florida she was using it.  I ooohhh'd and ahhh'd over it because my Grandma made it and Mom kindly gave it to me saying she had another one she could use.  Thanks Mom and (posthumously, Thanks Grandma too), I LOVE YOU BOTH.

This pocket also held my slap on pincushion bracelet I made last year.
What's in the bag you might ask?
Yes, it's sewing paraphernalia but this TAMMY is large enough for an 7.5" hoop plus some other things!

Want to see what it held in the main compartment?

All of this and a Canon Camera and there was still a bit more room.
Magic Eyes, a 7.5" Clover embroidery hoop loaded with my latest embroidery focus, a ring bundling bobbins filled with DMC floss, a DMC 5, white perle cotton in a perle Bubble, a plastic bag for some bits of thread that could be used up and a Madeira silver floss package besides my camera,  but it took the shot and wasn't in it!

The other exterior pocket also was ample enough to hold some more necessities.  Here I used another ribbon trim I had in,  Made two loops on each end of the trim after tacking it down in to three sections.  The loops could hold the ear pieces to glasses and sunglasses, pens, stylists, keys, smaller purses, flash drive,  etc.... and I tacked that center part down too so it wouldn't gap and flip flop.  Of course a Velcro closure on this more open side was called for.

All of these items were contained on this exterior circled printed pocket.

I'm thrilled with the outcome on this project.  I know I have this chartreuse aqua thingy going on and have been having it going on long before Bonnie Hunter's Easy Street QAL happened last winter.  I've loved chartreuse ever since I was 5 or six years old.  The only difference now is that I love aqua with it.  Back when I was young. I  loved it with purple- J'ADORE chartreuse!!

While snapping photos I thought another Tammy  would be great for this ..................................

My attempt at an unorthodox exclamation point.   I know, I need help!  giggles.

Look at all the crochet items this TAMMY can hold!  You could easily feed your yarn through the openings just under the frame and it could contain your ball of yarn without it rolling all over the place while crocheting from it too.

Another photo of the contents with the magnetic needle minder pulled off the bag,
just in case you missed it while attached in the above photo.   ;)

As I mentioned, I had to make mine larger because of the ball frame I purchased at Joanns.  The mouth of the frame is 8" wide and when fully opened is 3.5" wide.  (I wish that side of the opening was larger, I can't open this bad boy up large enough.)    I was able to use teh width of a legla sheet of paper (8.5") and just angled the top towards the outer edges of my paper pattern, keeping the integrity of the rest of the pattern and it worked.  Phew!!  I was worried for a while.

The worst part with the construction was finding the cording then sewing it to the frame.  Thankfully the local bead store had this lime green cording  in with their Kumihimo supplies, (which happens to be a class a friend and I'll be taking tomorrow).  VBG

Also I got to thinking that this pattern lengthened could be fantastic for knitting items too.

I pulled out my knitting needle organizer that I made almost 40 years ago to share with you.

See how old that fabric is?   I used felt for the wording and did a simplistic drawstring bag back when I was making layettes for my babies.  I had a Montgomery Ward sewing machine (White)  that worked like a tank.  It had drop in Cams for decorative stitching and I used one of them for the top of this casing.  Crocheting yarn for the drawstrings.  Simple project making without a pattern but effective.

It's not that pretty now, but it has been very serviceable and has helped me through the years.    Now wouldn't a Large mouthed tall skinny Tammy be perfect for this?

I surely  can see more Tammy's being made in my future.

Thanks Madamme Samm!
It's been a blast though I do have bruises on not one, but two thumbs!  Got those by  sewing that heft of fabric thickness onto the frame,
 but I must admit,
It was so totally worth it.
Check out these other bloggers who also are sharing their creations of Tammy.

PS:  I also couldn't remiss from admitting that also while younger I loved watching Tammy on the TV screen.  How idyllic a life she seemed to have living with her Grandpapi and I personally loved her freshness and goodness.  Now I'm signing off while humming to the tune of:  Tammy, Tammy, Tammy's in love...

Wait for it,

This shake your Pom Pom Blog Hop was the perfect opportunity for me to finish a couple of counted cross stitch pieces that have been stitched for awhile.   Rummaging through the stash had me finding some appropriate pom pom trims.
Miniature pom pom trim was used for this  Boo Balsam Pillow.
This is only about 3 inches by 5 inches and smells wonderful.

For the next little pom pom project I used the regular sized pom pom trim.  It's another counted cross stitch piece that I've had to finish but always managed to push it aside and work on other things.

Stuffed with polyester fiberfill and used a remnant from the Stitched in Color left after making a sewing machine cover.

Now for my Biggest Pom Pom Project

(and NO! they are nowhere near the size of Thearica's - lol)

Drum roll Meistro......

WAIT FOR IT.......
the back side,

WAIT FOR IT...........

the zippered flap

Wait for it...........

She's kicking her little legs!!!

ARE YOU READY?!!

Two Cents, Four Cents, Six Pence,  a Dollar,

whoever loves Pom Poms

Stand Up and HOLLER!!!!!!!

YEAH!!!!!!    lol

I'm standing up and Shaking my Pom Poms over this one!!!

I just Love my finish which also is another project I've been wanting to make for a while, thanks Madamme Samm for the opportunity in getting these projects to the finish line.

Let's hear it for Samm!     Yeahh!!!  and lots of applause......

While going outdoors for the photo shoot,
little miss cheerleader
just about did a  cartwheel in the driveway.

My camera wasn't fast enough to catch what her little legs were doing,  I was barely able to capture this!

A pillow Sham to complement PGD#1 quilt and her room decor.

Each part of this sham was quilted before stitching on the next part.  After all five sections were stitched together and quilted is when I attached the embellishments.  The doll is made from a panel of Moda Modkids that was out a couple of years ago.  I bought the panel for PGD#1 to learn how to sew which she did last year.  The arms are only tacked at the hands via the pom pom strings.  The legs and her behind are totally three dimensional and sewn on via the wasteband, under the shirt's hem.  Since this fabric panel had a front and a back I made use of both for her extremities.  This little lady can do pikes, splits and even cross her darling little legs.
Can you tell by my lingo that I was and loved being a cheerleader during  my high school days?   Fortunately I was a cheerleader for all four years in High School.  In fact, that's where I first noticed my DH.  It was at a basketball game when our team were the contendors for the championship in our division.  We both graduated from the same school but came from two different districts that merged together back in the 70's.   It was a very heated season and our school did win the season!  Many happy memories were made and  I learned so much about sports because of it too!
Of course this photo is not me, it's my PGD#1 who participated in a cheering rally two years ago.  She's the one looking up in the front.  All the girls had their own pom poms and did some routines.  So cute!

I really had to think this project through a gazillion times since it was done without a pattern.   I made copious notes and processed it mentally numerous times before going forward.  Trying to get the sequence figured out just right for this pillow's construction since I hate to unsew anything!!!!  I did see something similiar to this a year or two ago.  Not sure where it was or what theirs looked like now, so if you know or see any resemblance, please let me know so I can give them credit.  Coming back in Nov 2014 since I just found out where I got this idea from, it's from Riley Blake located at the link.    I used the leftover fabric from the Big Easy Quilt and pillowcases that were made for Miss McKenna earlier this year.  Luckily, I had that turquiose ric rac in my stash and a 22" long yellow zipper for the opening on the back.

So all of this was  made from my stash!

I'm also linking this in with Barb's New FO's for my April New FO.
Can I get a Whoop Whoop!!!
It's a win, Win,  WIN!!! situation for me.
Even the doll panel, which was from MODA, a modkid panel that was leftover from some dolls PGD#1 made last year.
The most difficult part was how to make her shoes.  Guess what I used?

JUMBO RIC RAC!!

The shoes were made from some JUMBO RIC RAC sewn into slip on slippers then stitched on her feet with a hot pink stitching strap lines and following the contours of the shoes. Pretty clever don't ya think! Not sure how I came up with that but I auditioned about 6 different foot apparal possibilities even using a black magic marker to draw on shoes. That definitely didn't work so I had to come up with something else.  That's when that Hot Pink jumbo ric rac caught my eye..... and VOILA!     SHOES were made.   With the aqua ric rac, I did a free motion stitch, catching both edges of it since I really don't like ric rac when it curls up after washing it.   This will stay down in a cyclone or the many cartwheels I forsee happening to her.

I tried to capture some photos of her posable legs, but it just didn't look right, I want this to be a PG rating post!
It also looks great in the den on the Sleeper sofa, the colors seem perfect together even though  tonight it's residing in another village
on a little girl's bed.

PGD#1 loves her and was smiling ear to ear when I gave it to her this afternoon.
Remember my astonishment a couple of weeks ago when I mentioned what I planned in my excitement  and she said she didn't think she'd like it?  She wanted to make another doll out of that panel!  Guess I need to find more like that for future projects for her to do and  Thankfully, she loves it!!

She especially likes the loose legs that she can practice some of her cheerleading and gymnastic moves on.
And with that being said, a perfect segue for

 Thearica,
You are an absolutely Terrific CHEERLEADER!!!!

Madamme Samm, Thearica and all the sponsors sharing in their efforts and products during this hop have been top Notch and such an inspiration.   Thank you all so much!
You have my respect, friendship and gratitude.
And in case you didn't know,
(I do love my Clover Pom Pom Makers!)

Now if you can stand it, and want to see more creative endeavors made with a pom pom theme, AND have time,
then please check out the other participants showing their project(s) today.

Quiltsmiles that's me!!!!

Bye -Bye!!!
You can see bra straps under my boatneck collar,
When I see you again, I'll give ya a Holler!!!!   lol!
I had fun participating with this hop.  It seems like each hop I commit to do, it becomes easier and easier.  I am so glad  to participate in them.  If you get a chance, don't hesitate.  It's fun, creative and you get to meet some really great people during it.
Thanks for stopping by.  If by chance you leave a comment,  I do try to reply,  but sometimes my 'puter skills are sorely lacking and I loose the connections.  So, I apologise in advance if you don't hear from me, that's not my intention and I do try to reply to each and every one of your sweet comments.

Catch you later!

Jane
(smiles)

PS:    I've used and loved pom poms for years!    Besides wearing pom poms on my sneakers and skates in my youth, I've embellished with them through out my life.  A beach towel I made several decades ago had pom pom trim on both ends, it was a very happy towel.

Even on my trip to Florida this winter I found what I fondly call  "pom pom trees".  I made my Mom stop so I could grab a photo, how cute!  According to my Mom via my eldest brother, they are Mistletoe trees but to me  they definely looked very Suessical!!!   Where's the Lorax?

I may have to craft with PGS#3 tomorrow and try to mimic these with some branches, adding bright green little pom poms with white tissue paper blossoms.  Both grandchildren have been having a ball with pom poms since I started this project.

Here's a photo of a Patchability pattern that I tweaked with a pom pom hat  circa 2010.

Magnets for the refridgerator, crafting with PGD#1 when she was 4, she's now 7.......

The definition for Pom Pom: noun - A tuft or ball of wool, feathers or other material worn as decoration.

Pincushion made from those wool embellishments purchased at Michaels and sewn onto a fabric covered snap bracelet.

Another defination which surprised me for pom pom which was also a noun - An automatic, rapid-fire antiaircraft cannon usually mounted on ships.  Who Knew that?!

Anyways, What can I say other than,  "I do love my pom poms!"

Another blog hop starting soon

Since the first Hop, In Your Own Words that  I participated with was a nudge to get somethingthat  I've wanted to get done actually DONE, I decided to participate in a couple more Blog Hops this year, you know these can be addictive!  This one is based on a pattern by Amy Bradley is being hosted by Madame Samm from Sew We Quilt and our cheerleader for this hop is the very nice Marlene from Stitchin By The Lake.
It is starting this week, I'm a Bit Biased kicks off on Tuesday, the 19th!

Each participant received a pattern from Madamme Samm that was designed by the talented Amy Bradley.  I'm sure you know her characters, they all seem to have a very unique personality.  With this hop each person is to use that pattern and base their project  on their own personality.  Should be interesting and also perhaps a bit revealing!  LOL

Here's a list of who will be sharing their creation according to the date(s).  I hope you enjoy this hop as much as I enjoy seeing all that creativity and eye candy.  My heart is accelerating as I speak!
Enjoy the hop!    I need to finish my creation that's a WIP.

Jane

PS:  I've been playing in my studio most of today and getting quite a bit accomplished despite just piddling around!    lol
Can you see I've left some hints in this post what my character is going to reveal?   lol
